Sweet Dreams has the best ice cream in Gainesville. It's been owned and operated by Mike and Lisa Manfredi from the very beginning, and they've always made good, old-fashioned home made ice cream.
One of the best things about Sweet Dreams ice cream is the variety of flavors. Every time you go, there's something different. Some of the flavors include Peanut Butter Madness, Joe Candy Store, Turkish Delight (with real figs!), Creme Brulee, and Green Tea Ginger, to name a few. There are always 24 different flavors in the case at all times, and they have made over 500 different flavors since the store opened.
If you're not as adventurous when it comes to desserts, don't worry; there are always flavors like vanilla, mint, coffee, and Mike's personal favorite, chocolate.
Finding truly homemade dessert is difficult, and even more difficult in Gainesville, but every scoop sold there is made right there in the back of the shop. It is very unusual to be able to buy a scoop directly from the person who came up with the recipe and made the ice cream themselves, literally a few feet from where it was made. And they do make all their own recipes--many "homemade" stores use industry-standard recipes that all end up tasting the same, but every flavor at Sweet Dreams is truly original.
One thing that blows people away when they come to Sweet Dreams of Gainesville is the prices. Even though they sell super-premium ice cream, even though all of the flavors are original, even though every scoop is homemade, right there in the store--it costs less than at any chain store. Mike and Lisa firmly believe in maintaining prices that make it possible for anyone to enjoy a nice treat without worrying about breaking the bank.
Their dessert is also featured at several Gainesville restaurants. Blue Highway, Boca Fiesta, and Buddha Belly all offer a variety of Sweet Dreams ice cream, and Ti Amo incorporates Sweet Dreams ice cream into its high-end desserts.
The Sweet Dreams firetruck has become something of a staple in Gainesville. A few years ago, Mike saw a used firetruck for sale, and was inspired to buy it and turn it into a mobile kitchen. The truck can now be seen with some regularity at restaurant openings, fairs, carnivals, parties, and even corporate events all around Gainesville and Alachua county.
But they feature more than just super-premium homemade ice cream. At Sweet Dreams of Gainesville, you can also get sorbets, cakes, brownies, chocolate-dipped bananas, and a changing assortment of other frozen treats--not to mention root beer on draught, served in icy, frosted mugs. Combine that with the family-friendly atmosphere, good music, board games, and outdoor seating, and it becomes hard to go anywhere else.
If you're looking for an exceptional dessert shop in Gainesville, Sweet Dreams is the place to go. Not only do they feature the best homemade ice cream in Gainesville and all-original, creative flavors, but they keep prices low enough so that anyone can afford to go.
